They say that a picture is worth a thousand words.
So, instead of providing words of what I'm experiencing during my year abroad... I will give thousands upon thousands of them instead.

Via Appia
This is one of the oldest roads in Rome, which is pretty cool. (The tour guide at the nearby catacombs said it was, in fact, the oldest road in the world... I haven't been able to verify that claim.)
Actually, there are older roads in the middle east, but the via Appia is one of the oldest _paved_ roads and I think it may be the oldest road that has been continuously in use up to modern times. I followed the entire via Appia (more or less) all the way from Rome to Brindisi a few years ago. Highly recommended. Anyway, thanks for the cool post, and I hope you enjoy your year abroad.
Lovely shot. This has great potential for pondering. The angle of the road and paver detail really pulls the eye in, add a little history, and there lies contemplative amusement!
I wonder how many layers of brick this road has. Cool!
